Teams Roofing Ltd – one to watch in 2017

February 2, 2017 | By |

Teams Roofing Ltd is a second generation, family owned business based in Washington, Tyne and Wear about to start 2017 on an upward trajectory.

Run operationally by brothers Chris and Michael Willits since 2014, the industrial, commercial and domestic roofing and cladding firm was initially established in 1977 by Alan and Sandra Willits and has made its name through its bespoke, professional and economical products and services.

The only roofing and cladding business in the North East that operates in all markets, undertaking every type of roofing and cladding, Teams Roofing has seen year on year growth since 2014.

Turnover has increased by almost 50% from 2014 to 2015. Growth from 2015 to 2016 is forecast at approximately 90%, making the business one of the largest in its field in the North East of England.

Capital investment has enabled the management team to expand and invest in new equipment, vehicles and staffing.

The business has a large site in Washington, Tyne and Wear and has recently commenced works on an extension to increase covered storage and create space in the manufacturing department, where bespoke roofing and rainwater goods accessories are produced.

The business is currently in its 40th trading year and has ambitious plans for the future. These include another extension in 2016/17 to the Washington facility to create a new dedicated training area for staff, along with additional office facilities.

Roofing firm set to expand after funding boost

A Washington-based roofing and cladding company has expanded its fleet of vehicles and broken ground on a warehouse extension after securing funding from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Teams Roofing’s investment is designed to support the on-going diversification of its commercial offering and is part of plans to explore new UK markets.

The move comes ahead of the second generation family business’ 40th year of trading.

Originally specialising in commercial and industrial roofing and cladding, the company doubled its turnover last.

Now, Teams Roofing has added 14 vehicles to its growing slating, tiling and leadwork operation.

It has also started construction on an extension to its current warehouse facilities, while plans are in place to extend the existing administrative and training operations at its Wylam Close headquarters.

Chris Willits, commercial director at Teams Roofing, said: “In spite of the difficult trading conditions our industry has seen over the past few years, our business has successfully negotiated these challenges to achieve year-on-year growth in a profitable environment.

“This has allowed us to invest in new staff, equipment, plant and facilities, which has exposed the business to new markets.

“We have seen a positive uplift in the amount of projects we are tendering for and, as a result, we have now exceeded our initial targets for secured work into Q2 of 2017 as we look to grow on a successful year.

“We are proud to have achieved the accolade of 40 years trading and look forward to continued success long into the future.”

Paul Watson, relationship manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, added: “Teams Roofing is a great example of a local, family business that is building on its success and reputation to make ambitious steps towards growth.

“Rapid expansion can be difficult but we’re confident the management team is set to navigate these challenges by ensuring their programme of improvements focuses on an exciting and lucrative new business area, while strengthening their essential infrastructure and existing offering with the right finance framework, which is why we have pledged to increase our lending to small and medium sized businesses by £1bn every year until 2017.”

Looking towards the future

March 9, 2016 | By |

Teams Roofing continue to invest heavily in both additional staffing and machinery following the recession with future growth being the main driver for this in the past 12 months. The purchase of a new state of the art punch machine will allow faster production of bespoke rainscreen bracketry and slotted head tracks. This will bolster the business’ offering for the rainscreen and SFS markets by cutting costs with ‘in house’ manufacturing. The manufacturing facility has also benefited from the purchase of a new forklift truck.

The slating and tiling division of the business has also had substantial investment with three vehicles and additional staff.

On the operational side of the business, investment in a new state of the art vehicle tracking system and external health and safety advice will now be sourced from North Counties Safety Group has streamlined the business’ processes.

Durham County Council have appointed Teams Roofing under their Framework contract to provide all of the roofing and cladding to the sensitive raised building adjacent the Indoor Market above the Durham Town Hall Function Suite. Due to its prestigious location above a fully furnished Town Hall Function Suite, great efforts have gone into the planning and a fully tented scaffold is to be provided above and a scaffold and protection below the roof area. The works are above a beautiful original glass rooflight within the function suite to provide additional difficulty in the works. Coupled with the fact this raised building is above other fragile roofs and has a large Crysotile removal required of existing coverings, in the heart of Durham Town Centre, the works will present challenges for the entire construction team. Teams Roofing will be providing a new Kingspan Optimo cladding system, Kingspan Tile support roofing, with Welsh Heather reclaimed slate installed on battens above, Kingspan Topdeck IKO Armouplan lined panels to the lower roof, new bespoke flashings, finishes, lead gutters and decorate lead ridge and hip features.
